About Us

Sahara Family Advice is a non-profit Community Interest Company dedicated to providing guidance and assistance to families and children. With a focus on addressing the needs of vulnerable children in care, our experienced social workers are committed to making a positive impact on their lives.

HOW IT STARTED:

Sahara Family Advice is a non-profit Community Interest Company that was founded by two qualified social workers in August 2021. We identified a need for this service through our years of experience of working with families and children. A recent government study covers 31 March 2019 to 31 March 2020. It reveals over 80,000 children in England were in care on 31 March 2020, increasing 2% from 78,140 the previous period. The amount of children entering the care system across the UK is extremely worrying. Children often face a lot of inconsistency, instability and chaos when in the care system. We aim to reduce the amount of children who needlessly remain in care through our service. We also offer support and guidance for families when the best option for the child is to remain in care.

With so many children entering the care system there is very little support focused on the families of the children in care. Families often feel scrutinised, under pressure and at fault.

There is a significant need that during this time, there is support available that is professional, competent, outcome focused, empathetic and reliable.

I am currently studying Quantity Surveying at Birmingham City University. I have been raised in a fostering household so working with children and families involved in the care system is very close to me. I enjoy volunteering at Sahara Family Advice and being part of a team that provides a much needed service to the community.

I am a college student currently studying Computer Science BTEC at Joseph Chamberlain College. I have friends and family who are involved with social workers which is why I enjoy volunteering at Sahara Family Advice. I have interests in customer service and marketing. I am happy to be part of an organisation that helps the community.
